Is Bo Nickal the Best Prospect to Ever Enter the UFC?

Image
BO NICKAL IS COMING FOR THE MIDDLEWEIGHT BELT             Season Six of Dana White's Contender Series has wrapped up and the UFC has awarded the most contracts in the history of DWCS with 43 signed fighters, which beat last season's record of 39.     The season was highlighted with several great performances including one from a 17 year old Raul Rosas Jr., but the fighter that caught the most attention after this season was Penn State wrestling national champion and now undefeated mixed martial artist Bo Nickal.        Nickal is by far the most decorated collegiate wrestler that we've seen enter the UFC, and that includes hall-of-famers Daniel Cormier, Brock Lesnar and future hall-of-famers Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo.    Many fans first introduction to Nickal was at UFC 251, where Jorge Masvidal brought Nickal into his training camp to help him prepare for the wrestling-centered champion Kamaru Usman. Leon Edwards Saved the Welterweight Division

LEON EDWARDS SENDS KAMARU USMAN TO THE SHADOW REALM 🔥     In the main event of UFC 278, the combat sports world witnessed one of the most spectacular comeback knockouts in a championship fight since the inception of the UFC.      Leon "Rocky" Edwards def. #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC Kamaru Usman via 5th round headkick to become the undisputed welterweight champion of the world and the second ever champion to reside from the UK.     This win was extremely significant for several different reasons, but ultimately changes the landscape of the entire UFC for the next year. Usman was entering his 6th title defense against Edwards at UFC 278, with many pundits giving Edwards a small chance to pull off the upset.     Usman was in the middle of an incredible run in the UFC, a 15-0 record which was 1 shy of Anderson Silva's record. He also went into many media sessions claiming that he had "lapped the division" and was looking ahead ...

Chito Vera is the UFC's King of Violence

Image
THE CHITO SHOW      The UFC's show on August 13th at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego was headlined by a crucial matchup in the bantamweight division between Marlon "Chito" Vera and former 2 time champion Dominick Cruz. With the 37 year old Cruz on a win streak and finally able to stay active in his career, the matchup with the Ecuadorian gangster would only result in fireworks, and it certainly delivered.     Chito Vera knocks out Dominick Cruz in the 4th round via a headkick that might of had similar impact to that of 400 foot homerun from Manny Machado just twenty miuntes down the road at Petco Park.     The fight played up to its lofty expectations with Cruz looking like his prime self through the first 3 rounds, darting in and out of range and outlanding Vera on the signifant strikes count. But as we've seen recently through Chito's career, he has a granite chin and just needs one shot to significantly hurt his opponent and separate them fro...

The State of Israel Adesanya's Star Power after UFC 276

Image
IS ISRAEL ADESANYA LOSING FANS?     This past weekend was the UFC's biggest card of the year to cap off International Fight Week with middleweight champion Israel Adesanya defeating #2 contender Jared Cannonier by unanimous decision (49-46 x2, 50-45) in the main event of UFC 276.      The card was stacked from the early prelims to the main event, but the fights left many fans underwhelmed, especially with the lackluster main event.      Adesanya implemented a very smart game plan, keeping the powerful Cannonier at range with low kicks and jabbing at him from a distance and never put himself in harms way at any time during the 25 minutes. However, this is now the fourth fight in a row for Adesanya that he would describe as "an off night".      His run to get to the title was filled with many entertaining and wild moments including his 2019 fight of the year against Kelvin Gastelum, his knockout over long reigning champion Robe...

This Summer Has the Potential to be the UFC's Most Loaded Season Ever... and Here's Why

Image
THE UFC'S LOADED SUMMER SLATE Up to this point in the UFC's 2022 schedule, the fans have been treated with many great title fights and stacked cards. However, it seems as if the spring season of fights was just an appetizer for an all-time great summer slate.  Many fans have been upset with the way the UFC schedules their weekly fights. The first 5 pay-per-views of the year have been very top-heavy, with many fights being scrapped at the last moment along with subpar UFC Fight Night cards.  For example, with UFC 270 headlined by heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou against interim champion Cyril Gane, it appeared as if the UFC under-stacked that card due to the ongoing contract negotiations with Ngannou. Ngannou has made it clear that he wants the flexibility to box within his contract along with increased pay, but UFC president Dana White has been openly against that idea. Francis Ngannou has shown in his last two pay-per-view headliners that he isn't as big of a draw...

May 7th Combat Sports Recap

Image
RECAPPING A BIZARRE WEEKEND IN COMBAT SPORTS UFC 274: Justice For Do Bronx On Saturday May 7th, the combat sports world saw the highly anticipated UFC Lightweight Championship bout between Champion* Charles Oliveira and number one contender Justin Gaethje. After a bizarre turn of events during the weigh-ins Friday morning where Charles Oliveira missed weight by a half a pound, "Do Bronx" silenced the doubters by submitting Justin Gaethje in the first round of UFC 274's main event in an all-time classic war. However, since he was stripped of his title on the scales, he was unable to win the belt on Saturday night.  The fight played out very similar to Oliveira's first title defense against Dustin Poirier, where he was knocked down early in the fight but was able to survive because of his terrifying ground game. Gaethje clearly wanted nothing to do with him on the ground, so when Charles was knocked down he was able to have time to recover and get back in Gaethje'...
